CHOGORI INN
TASHKURGAHN, XINJIANG, CHINA 2021
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Pamir Mountains, this innovative spa hotel project represents a harmonious blend of natural geothermal resources and thoughtful architectural intervention. The discovery of underground thermal vents led to a complete reimagining of an existing hotel structure, transforming it into a wellness destination that celebrates local building traditions.
The renovation preserved the original building's core structure while completely reconstructing the facade using locally sourced stone, applied with traditional building techniques. This approach not only honors local architectural heritage but also provides superior thermal mass - crucial for the challenging mountain climate of Tashkurgan.
Key architectural features include:
Contemporary glass vestibule entrance creating a striking contrast with traditional stonework
Network of individual spa villas, each utilizing natural thermal springs
Main hotel building featuring both private and double rooms french doors opening to mountain views
Innovative geothermal routing system delivering spring water to individual villa units
Integration of local stone masonry with modern glazing techniques
The design thoughtfully balances thermal efficiency with luxury amenities, creating a unique hospitality experience that celebrates the natural resources of the region. The thermal spring system has been carefully engineered to maintain optimal temperatures throughout the property while minimizing environmental impact.
This project showcases our ability to work sensitively with existing structures and natural resources while creating sophisticated hospitality spaces that respect local architectural traditions.
